Estate Sale Leftovers Removal: Boise Estate Cleanout Guide
It's about three o'clock on a Sunday in Meridian, just off the Ten Mile corridor. The estate sale ended an hour ago and the signs are coming down, but the house is still about half full. That's usually when a family calls us about an estate cleanout in Boise or one of the towns nearby. We get that call almost every week.
If you're standing in that house right now, here's what happens next.
What's usually left after an estate sale
A good estate sale moves the antiques, the tools, the nice dining set and the jewelry. It doesn't move the stuff nobody wants to drive across town for.
Think of the sleeper sofa that takes three people to lift, or the old tube TV in the basement. Then add forty years of holiday decorations, mismatched dishes, a couple of mattresses and a garage shelf full of half-used paint.
Then there are the spaces the sale never touched. Attics, crawl spaces, the shed out back, the closet everyone forgot about. Last spring we cleared a house on the Bench where the sale had gone great. Behind a door the family thought was a linen closet, we found a whole second room of boxes.
So don't be surprised if "what's left" turns out to be more than you figured. It almost always is.
How estate sale leftovers removal works in Boise
It's simpler than most people expect. You call, we come out and look at everything, and you get a firm price before anybody picks up a box.
The walkthrough and the price
The walkthrough is free. We go room by room with you, or with your realtor or a neighbor if you live out of state, and look at how much is there and how hard it'll be to get out.
Pricing depends on how much room it takes up in our trucks and how much work is involved. A bedroom set on the second floor with a tight stairway takes more effort than the same set sitting in a ranch-style garage. Honestly, that's the whole formula.
Nothing gets tacked on afterward. The price we give you is the price you pay, and you can pay with cash, card or Venmo.
What the day looks like
Clearing what's left after a sale usually takes part of a day, not a week. The sale already did a lot of the sorting for you. A full house that never had a sale is a different story.
We load everything, sweep up, and leave the place ready for a realtor, a landlord or the next family. If the schedule has room, we can sometimes do the work the same day as the estimate.
Tip: Before the sale starts, pull out anything the family wants to keep and lock it in one room or a car. Tape a note on the door. Once a sale crew and then a cleanout crew have been through, Grandma's recipe box gets a lot harder to find in a pile of kitchen stuff.
Timing your Boise estate cleanout around the sale
This is where people trip up the most. They wait until the sale's over to call anyone, and then the house sits full for two weeks while the closing date creeps closer.
It's a lot less stressful to book the estimate the week before the sale. We'll walk through and give you a rough idea, then come back for a final look once the buyers are gone. That way the cleanout can happen the next day, or even that same evening.
Why does that matter? A shut-up house full of old food, furniture and boxes gets unpleasant fast in a hot Treasure Valley summer. And in January, nobody wants to carry a recliner down an icy porch in Kuna at four in the afternoon with the light already going.
If the house is going on the market, ask your realtor when the photos are scheduled and count back from there. Leftovers go first, then any cleaning, then photos.
Where the leftovers actually go
A lot of families worry that everything goes straight to the landfill. It doesn't.
Much of what we haul gets donated or recycled. Usable furniture, clothes, kitchenware and household goods go to local donation spots, and metal, cardboard and electronics get recycled when they can be. Only what's truly worn out ends up at the Ada County landfill, or the Canyon County one if we're working in Nampa or Caldwell.
Some things need special handling. Paint, chemicals, propane tanks and anything else that might be hazardous can't go in the truck with everything else. We'll point those out on the walkthrough and tell you plainly what we can take and what needs a separate drop-off.
Maybe there's a church in Eagle you'd like the pews to go to, or a neighbor in Star who's had his eye on the workbench for years. Just tell us and we'll set those things aside.
Do you need a crew, or just a pickup?
Sure, we'd love the job. But if all that's left is a couple of chairs and a few boxes, and you've got a pickup and a free Saturday, you can probably handle it yourself.
It gets hard when there's a lot of it and it's heavy. Heavy furniture, a full garage and a basement all at once means a lot of trips, a lot of lifting and a stack of dump fees. That's usually the point where hiring a crew makes more sense than borrowing your brother-in-law for the weekend.
The bottom line
An estate sale clears out the valuable stuff. It rarely clears out the house.
Plan for the leftovers before the sale starts and get your price up front. Book the cleanout close to the sale date, so the house isn't sitting there full while the clock runs.
